How to set up a Blackboard (DUO) discussion board
Within DUO you can create a discussion board which will enable you and your students to communicate asynchronously.
This guide will explain how to:
- Set up a discussion board within your module site
- Subscribe to receive alerts to posts

Step one: Create the discussion board
Here is a short video demonstrating how to create a discussion board within your module DUO site.
Within your discussion board you can create forums and, within forums, you can create threads.
How you organise this is up to your requirements. For example, if you have a number of seminar groups you could choose to create a forum dedicated to each group and set up threads to correspond to each seminar topic. (Note, all students enrolled on the module will be able to view all of the forums as a default setting.)
Step two: Subscribe to the forums
To receive alerts whenever your students post to a forum or thread, you will need to subscribe. Here is a short video demonstrating how to subscribe to all the threads within one forum. If you have multiple forums you will need to repeat the exercise for each.
